Breaking: Dang Dinh Bach Vows to Begin Hunger Strike to the Death Two Weeks Earlier Than Originally Planned
BREAKING: Dang Dinh Bach informed his wife Tran Phuong Thao on May 30 that he will begin his full hunger strike on June 9 – the birthday of their 2-year-old son, rather than on June 24, as originally planned. Bach is currently on a partial hunger strike to protest his unjust imprisonment and has vowed to begin a full hunger strike until he is released or he dies in prison. An NGO leader and climate activist, Bach is currently serving five years in prison on charges of tax evasion, which we have argued are politically-motivated. Bach has asked that the campaign to support him be called “Justice – Environment – Climate” and said that individuals can help “boost his energy” in these ways:
- Practice green living;
- Help vulnerable communities affected by environmental pollution fight for justice;
- Join him in the hunger strike and spread the message.
Bach emphasized that his hunger strike is not simply to demand justice for himself but also to insist on the rule of law and that all jailed human rights and environmental activists be released.
Please circulate this update widely and stand with Bach by joining the hunger strike and calling on President Joe Biden to condition a planned visit by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong in Washington D.C. as early as July on the unconditional release of Bach and other imprisoned climate activists.
