The 88 Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in the United States. Founded in 2012, The 88 Project supports and encourages freedom of expression in Vietnam by sharing the stories of and advocating for Vietnamese activists who are persecuted because of their peaceful dissent.

The 88 Project is looking for a Co-Director to join our existing Co-Directors in leading our dynamic and international team to further our mission. This is a full-time remote staff position with flexible working hours and benefits. Part-time arrangements could be negotiated as well. 

Responsibilities 

Advocacy Leadership: 

  • Set advocacy strategy in consultation with other Co-Directors and team members
  • Direct advocacy program 
  • Represent the organization in public events, media, and stakeholder meetings

Organizational Management: in close coordination with other Co-Directors 

  • Set strategic direction for the organization 
  • Draft and implement annual budget, balance different grants’ budgets
  • Oversee the organization’s operations
  • Manage the financial processes – including:
    • Pay invoices/reimbursements 
    • Work closely with Accountant’s team to oversee bank reconciliation, taxes, payroll, bookkeeping services, preparing auditing materials
    • Update Board and staff on financial position as needed
    • Track donations and send thank you letters to donors
  • Draft reports for grant management
  • Apply for and manage grants 
  • Recruit, on-board new hires, and train new staff
  • Ensure the team’s adherence to cyber security and confidentiality protocols

Qualifications 

  • Solid understanding of human rights and politics in Vietnam 
  • Demonstrated international human rights advocacy experience
  • Vietnamese fluency, both speaking and writing, strongly preferred 
  • Prior non-profit leadership and management experience, including grant and human resources management
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, problem solving, data analysis, personnel management, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and digital skills; excellent attention to detail 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team player
  • Graduate degree in a related field preferred
