Sentenced to 7 years in prison under Art. 116 (2015 Code). Expected Release is May 10, 2031.
According to State media, Ro Cham Grong has been part of the “Dega Protestant Church” since 2000. He served as the a local leader (deacon) in Krăi village, Chư Păh, Gia Lai province.
In 2018, someone named Ro Cham Kut, who said he was in the U.S., reached out to Grong and told him that the church had been named “Sang Pơpu Ană Cư," and was now recognized internationally, and told him to continue to promote it. Starting in 2020, Grong thus started to hold weekly meetings at his home. He also spoke with other local leaders in his area to support their groups and connect them to Kut online.
Between 2021-2023, it is alleged that Grong sent lists to Kut of local church followers, who in turn sent money to Kut to fund the church. Kut created and placed Grong as the leader of a local Deacon Board. By the end of 2023, Grong reported that the chruch had over 330 local followers.
On May 10, 2024, Gia Lai police arested Ro Cham Grong.
