Details
The Vietnamese government has accused Y Thinh Nie of reporting human rights violations (especially violations of religious rights) against members of ethnic minority groups on Facebook and of working with overseas groups like MSFJ and BPSOS. He is also alleged to have petitioned for the protection of religious freedom for Ede minority groups in Dak Lak province on behalf of the Evangelical Church of Christ in the Central Highlands and has actively opposed joining the state-run Evangelical Church of Vietnam (Southern).
Y Thinh Nie was accused of being connected with FULRO and MSFJ, both of whom are labeled by the Vietnamese government as terrorist organizations. But there is no evidence (or allegation) that Y Thinh Nie himself engaged in terrorism. He was not arrested in the June 11, 2023 attack on government offices in Dak Lak.
Both Nie and his wife have been questioned by the police about their activities on multiple occasions. Nie has been detained several times.
Charged under Art. 116 (2015 Code).
