On August 3, 2024, Nguyen Van Nhon was arrested by the Quang Binh police under Article 331 for “abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, lawful rights and interests of organizations and/or citizens.” According to state media, during the government’s meetings with local people in May and October 2023, Nguyen Van Nhon said things “showing signs of infringing upon the legitimate rights and interests of the State, organizations, and individuals.” Also, Nhon posted and shared on his Facebook content “insulting the prestige, defaming the honor and dignity of Party and State leaders and former Party and State leaders in the locality.”
On November 13, 2024, the People's Court of Ba Don Town, Quang Binh, sentenced him to 30 months in prison.
