Details

Khanh started using Facebook to share his perspective on political and social issues in Vietnam around 2018. He publicly posted support for political prisoners and called for greater government transparency, especially in policing. 

Khanh was summoned for questioning about his posts by Lam Dong police in June 2023 but refused to comply, citing covid-19 concerns.

Lam Dong provincial police arrested Hoang Viet Khanh (b. 1983) on March 1, 2024, and accused him of posting articles and videos that allegedly “defame the party, the state and chairman Ho Chi Minh.” The Cyber ​​Security and Crime Prevention Department had reportedly reviewed Khanh’s social media before passing the information to the Security Investigation Agency of Lam Dong provincial police.
