The harassment against the BOT Pha Lai (Bac Ninh) protesters is one of many incidents concerning the anti-BOT tollbooth movement in Vietnam spread throughout 2017, 2018 and 2019; the movemebt protests the corrupt practices and placement of the tollbooths. For merely refusing to pay their tickets and practicing civil disobedience, several activists were sentenced to prison.
