The Independent Journalist Association of Vietnam is one of few independent journalist organizations in the country. The association was established in 2014 and attracted many prominent and talented journalists. By the end of 2020, just a few weeks before the National Congress of the Vietnamese Communist Party, all of its leading members had been arrested. All of them later were convicted and sentenced to over 10 years of imprisonment for each member. Many others affiliated with the organization have also been harassed.
