Incident Group: Harassment against Green Trees activists

Green Trees (GT) is one of the most active and vocal environmentalist organizations in Vietnam. Established in 2015 as an organization to focus on preserving green spaces of Ha Noi City, GT quickly became a leading force in environmental protection in Vietnam, where environmental disasters are often treated as insignificant events by the government.

In 2019,  the group presented Don’t be Afraid - a film in documentary style -  to Vietnamese audiences. The film is a project of Green Trees trying to document the life of Vietnamese victims affected by the infamous Formosa incidents

This was not well-received by the authorities and several activists were detained, had their belongings seized, and some even beaten.
