The Khmer Krom is a minority community mainly living in Kien Giang Province. Surrounded by Kinh communities and subjected to forced evictions from the local authorities, many young Khmer Krom have become land right activists with the hope that they can protect the community’s legitimate interests. However, the authorities usually use criminal charges and harassment to silence them. Since the 2000s, the group has tried to advocate for their rights in Vietnam through peaceful means ,including human rights publications, demonstrations, and land rights petitions.
