The indigenous Protestant community in Gia Lai Province, which is usually called Dega Protestant Church, has suffered decades of harassment and prosecution. The Vietnamese government regards them a reactionary group that uses religion as a rallying point to encourage ethnic minority separatism and political unrest. Ten years after the campaign of forced expulsion of the Protestant Church out of the Central Highlands (2001 - 2011), there are many followers of the Church that continue to face uncertainty and suppression of their right to freedom of religion.
